Brooklynn Thomas has been an employee at Brookside Nursing Home for the past four and half years. When Thomas was hired, she started off as a care aid. However, over the past few years she went through the training and education courses provided by Brookside and received her C.N.A. and C.M.A. license. She has now completed nursing school, while working at the nursing home, and received her LPN license.

Thomas and her husband Dylan have two daughters named Myia and Gracelynn. She said in her free time away from work she enjoys spending time with her family, reading books, and going on long runs. She said she credits her mom for her work ethic.

“My mom has been one of my biggest inspirations in life,” Thomas said. “She has worked her butt off to provide for me and my brother. Never giving up even in the lowest of times. She has always been by my side and has encouraged me, always pushing me to do my very best.”

Thomas said her biggest challenge has been learning how to share her work responsibilities and not trying to complete every task by herself, but her favorite part of the job has been building relationships with her residents.

“I have enjoyed all the wonderful stories they have shared with me,” she said. “My advice would be, listen to your residents, and learn their likes and dislikes. It makes the job much easier.”

She also noted that Stacie Burchett, a fellow co-worker, has been her biggest inspiration since working there.

“She is such a kind and caring person,” Thomas said. “She is realist about expectations and is one of the hardest workers I know.”

One of her favorite memories from working at Brookside was the day she got to watch the residents slide on a slip in slide outside.

“That day was filled with fun and happiness, and they really enjoyed it.”

Thomas said she wanted to thank all the people involved in her journey while working at Brookside.

“I would like to tell everyone thank you for all the memories and opportunities I have been given I have really enjoyed my time working here and I will miss each and every one of you,” Thomas said.

Her time at Brookside is ending, however, her journey in the medical field continues. She has recently accepted a position at Mercy and plans to continue her education to get her RN license. She said her goal is to love life and help as many people as she possibly can, and to be an example to her daughters.

“I want my children and others to know anything is possible and if you set your mind to it, it can be accomplished.”
