Texoma Fire District: Fire hazards still around

Training is starting this month, and anyone interested in becoming a volunteer of the Texoma Fire Department, please call Chief Todd Cissel at (580) 565-4491.

With the wind blowing remember, DO NOT Burn. We have been very fortunate to not have any grass fires so far, so remember to be vigilant in your burning and make sure those fires are out before leaving them unattended. If you are going to do a controlled burn call the Sheriff’s office at (580)7954-2221. You can also call Chief Cissell at (580) 565-4491.

This time of year, with everyone decorating and setting up Christmas trees there are a few extra precautions to keep in mind, such as: follow the manufacturers recommendations as to hooking up those lights, usually there is a three string limit per outlet. If you have a real tree in your home remember to keep water in the base and never leave home with it plugged in, that goes for space heaters also. When burning candles remember to burn them within your sight, keep away from things that catch fire, keep away from children and pets, and never leave them burning when you go to bed or leave the home.

If we all think about fire safety, we will have a happy Christmas and New Year.

On Wednesday evenings from 5 to 6pm Lighthouse United Methodist Church has a “No strings attached” meal for the community so you are all welcome to attend.
