August is upon us and the school buses will begin running again on Thursday, August 6 for the Kingston school children. Please be alert for children near the road’s edge.

Remember, you still have a few weeks to purchase tickets for the Buncombe Creek Neighborhood Association raffle. The raffle will end on Tuesday, August 18 for the handmade corn hole boards and bags that were donated by Ricky Bell.

You may purchase them at the marina store. Just ask for D’Linda. The proceeds will go toward improvement of the Jurassic Park area, fondly frequented by many in the area.

Many have experienced children on golf carts driving very fast on the few roads that run through the park. A small dog walking with his owner was run over and killed this past weekend from children speeding and not minding the 10 MPH speed limit.

Please educate your kids if you allow them to drive the carts on the roads in the area.

The Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. hosted their Annual General Meeting on Saturday, August 1 and was attended by approximately 40 people. The agenda included honoring the seven folks that completed their EMR training, as well as presenting Ed Kent with a large clock for his many years of volunteer service.

Ed has been a fixture to the department for 22 years. Congratulations for your service Ed.

Also, the board acknowledged the check for $1600.00 that Karen Wootton from the Buncombe Creek Marina presented for the donations received during the “Burning of the Socks” event that was held in March. The department is hosting an

EMT training class that will run on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. through the month of August. There are 22 who have signed up.
