Cantrell: Busy week at the capitol

We've been pretty busy at the Capitol this week! Some of my bills were approved by committee and I wanted everyone to know about them.

House Bill 3758 passed the County and Municipal Government Committee without objection. I talked about this last week, but it's important because it aims to keep schools safe and promote a positive learning environment.

House Bill 3758 says any state, county or municipal correctional facility built after Nov. 1, 2024 cannot be within 2,000 feet of any public or private elementary or secondary school or within 2,500 feet of any safe facility for minors. I hope to present it in the House.

Next, House Bill 3762 allows counties in a multi-county library system to request a review of the system's budget and estimated needs with a 2/3 vote of all participating county boards of commissioners. The CEO or head of accounting is tasked with providing the requested data. The review site must be mutually agreed upon or located in the county with the largest funding contribution.

The goal is to ensure that county tax dollars are used fairly and transparently to fund multi-county library systems. This is great news for anyone looking to make the most of their budget.

Finally, I want to talk about House Bill 3760, which seeks to define “medication preparation” as mentioned in the Nursing Home Care Act. The bill grants licensed nurses the right to prepare medications for administration within the scope of their license. This bill will help meet workforce demands in long-term care facilities across the state.

Here's a quick update on how to look up invoices online so everyone can stay informed.

The submitted invoices can be consulted on okhouse. gov by visiting 'Legislation', then 'Basic Bill Search', where you can enter the bill number to view the full text of the bill.

To view bills introduced by a given legislator, select "Advanced Bill Search" under "Legislation." From there, you can select the legislator's last name to see the bills they have introduced.

You can also view all bills that have been introduced to date by visiting "Selected Step Reports" on the far left and selecting "Introduced." Here you can choose bills presented in only one chamber or you can select all and view all bills.

You can also view committee meetings and floor proceedings on okhouse.gov by visiting 'News and Media', where you can view proceedings live or recorded.
