Gov. Fallin Helps Welcome Irish Prime Minister to Oklahoma

Gov. Mary Fallin recently helped welcome Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar to Oklahoma when he visited here with members of the Choctaw Nation who donated money to the Irish Famine Relief in 1847.

While in Oklahoma, Varadkar personally thanked Choctaw Nation Chief Gary Batton for the contribution made by his ancestors and announced a scholarship program that will allow members of the Choctaw Nation to come to Ireland to study. The prime minister made his comments during an event in which the Choctaw Nation presented traditional cultural and sporting performances.

This will continue for a few days, so think before you drive off into the yard or a ditch.

Texoma Fire District: New Schedules are Out, Mark Your Calendars

By Paula Zimmerman

There will be sunshine for a couple of days, such a nice break from all the rain. Just remember even though we have gotten a lot of rain, and more to come, fires can still get out of hand very quickly. The burn ban is off, but if you do a control burn, please call it in to the sheriff's office.

This saves us from having to make a trip out for nothing. If the control burn gets out of hand, remember to always call 911. Right now everyone is concerned about all the flooding, so again, watch the roads and be careful.

The Texoma Fire Department will be doing the highway cleanup this Saturday, March 3. We will meet at 8 a.m. at the fire station and will pick up trash from Parkview Road to Alberta Creek Road.
