Women compete in first-annual striper bass tournament

Lake Texoma’s first womenonly fishing tournament kicked off June 8 with 140 participants.

The contestants of the first annual Southern Striper Babes 2019 tournament mostly originated from Oklahoma and Texas, but some women came from as far away as New England.

The event started 30 minutes before dawn at Highport Marina and the contestants were able to check in their fish to measure until 12:30 p.m.

The categories for the tournament included Lady Queen Angler (the oldest contestant), Princess Angler (the youngest contestant) and first through third for guided and non-guided individual and combined-team longest fish.

Mary Duncan, winner of the Lady Queen Angler, formed Marshall County’s only team, the Gutsy Gals. Her team won two awards: the Lady Queen Angler by Duncan, and the Biggest Fish Winner by Linda Reeves.
