First Annual Mack Stafford Memorial Softball Tournament kicks off the National Sand Bass Festival

I have never liked playing softball. Swinging a bat that, at times, was bigger than me was not my idea of fun. But on Saturday, June 1, I watched people from our area and beyond come together to remember Mack Stafford.

I asked Donny Raley, Chairman of the National Sand Bass Festival committee, who was Mack Stafford to you? Donny replied, “When I think of the Sand Bass Festival, I immediately think of the Stafford family. Carol, the father of Mack and Bink, was one of the original Sand Bass committee members .. a founding father, so to speak.”

“As long as there has been a Sand Bass Festival, there has been a Stafford on the planning committee,” Raley continued. “As a young member of the Sand Bass Festival Committee back in the late 1980’s, Mack was like Mr. Sand Bass to me. He was on the Sand Bass Committee during the original festival. In fact, he was the Chairman during the final year of the original festival in 1976.”
