SPRINGING INTO FOOTBALL

Wildcats roar back to life during off-season practice

As the old saying goes, football season never really ends. That is the case for the Madill Wildcats, who started their second week of spring practice on May

20.

On a windy spring day, dozens of players and coaches continued work ahead of their second season under head football coach Todd Vargas.

Last season, the Wildcats finished with a 4-6 record, their first under Vargas and their first in Class 4A.

Vargas said the team is working a few things this spring.

“Number one, we’re trying to build off what we did last year,” He said. “We have a lot of returning starters. I know off hand, on offense we have eight. We have returning starters on defense. Offensively, we’re not trying to add anything. We’re trying to get better. From where we were last year to where we are now is just leaps and bounds. It’s fun. We’re not starting from ground zero. We actually have a base on us. That’s been great.”
