New things coming to Madill schools

Blake Smiley stadium set for artificial turf, new track

It was announced at the May 9 meeting of the Madill School Board that Blake Smiley Stadium will be receiving a new artificial turf surface and a new eight-lane track this summer as part of a $1.3 million improvement project.

The item was discussed and approved as new business in front of the Madill School Board.

The life expectancy of the new field is 12 years, said Hector Puentes, president of General Sports Services (GSS), the contractor hired for the project. Replacement fencing and drainage improvements are also part of the work, Puentes said.

“We’ve been replacing these fields at district schools in this area,” he said.

Puentes said the life of the artificial turf is 10 to 12 years.
