Death Notices

LaVanda Marie (Sudduth) McClure, a lifetime resident of Madill, Okla., passed away on May 9, 2019, at the age of 85. She was born on May 24, 1933, to Thomas R. and Tommie Irene (Mayfield) Sudduth. She attended Madill schools and graduated in 1950. She married Guy McClure, Jr.on July 22, 1950, and they were married for 61 years when he preceded her in death in 2011. She received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Southeastern State University in Durant, Okla. She was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church. She enjoyed painting, her flowers, and being with her family.

LaVanda taught in Madill schools for 25 years and retired in 1988. She will be remembered by many students to which she taught Spanish, English, or helped them learn to read.

LaVanda was preceded in death by her husband: Guy McClure, Jr.; parents: Thomas R. and Tommie Irene Sudduth; son-in-law; Danny “Bodie” Watson; sisters: Mary Lois Whisman and Pat Westlund; brothers: John Thomas Sudduth; and an infant brother.

She is survived by her children: Millicent (McClure) Watson, of Madill, Okla.; Jo Adams, of Madill, Okla.; and Alan McClure, of Madill, Okla.; grandchildren: Mariah Coble and husband Cody, of Marietta, Okla.; great-grandchildren: Rhett Coble, of Kingston, Okla.; and Weston Coble, of Marietta, Okla.; along with many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2019, at Crossroads Southern Baptist Church in Kingston, Okla. Brother Eric Dennis officiated. Interment was at Woodberry Cemetery in Madill, Okla. No family hour.
