Teacher Pay Raise Bill Being Negotiated at Capitol

One year after a historic teacher walkout debate rages at the Oklahoma state capitol about a muchdiscussed teacher pay raise.

Senate Bill 441 is the lone teacher pay raise bill alive in the 2019 legislative session. The bill would grant a $1,200 pay raise to teachers across the state including those in the Kingston and Madill school districts.

The bill’s sponsors are Senator Marty Quinn (R-Claremore) and Rep. Rhonda Baker (R-Yukon).

However, the pay raise may come with a catch. An amendment added to the bill on April 24 would require a minimum number of instruction hours and could result in more schools returning to a five-day school week.

Madill Schools are already compliant with this rule, said Larry Case, superintendent.
