Donald Benard Fortenberry

Donald Benard Fortenberry, 79, of Wylie, Texas, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at the Vitas Hospice Care Center in Carrollton, Texas. He was born on March 28, 1939, in Durant, Okla., to the late Troy Alvin Fortenberry and Johnnie Pauline Cornell Fortenberry. Donald was raised in Durant where he graduated high school and later received a business degree at Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas. He married Jackie Miller on May 28, 1960, in Madill, Okla. Donald worked for 49 years in the grocery retail business, 37 of those years being with Albertson’s where he retired as store director at the age of 62. In his younger years he liked to go bowling and played on a bowling league. After he retired he enjoyed playing at the casino, collecting coins, traveling to South Texas, and loved working jigsaw puzzles. He is survived by his wife: Jackie Fortenberry, Wylie, Texas; children: Laura Lyn Benoit and husband, Dave, Richardson, Texas; Lisa Leigh Fortenberry, Richardson, Texas; Lynda Lou Daniel, Kingston, Okla.; four grandchildren: Lynzee Benoit, Dylan Benoit, Jordan Schrunk, and Hunter Daniel; sister: Judy McMeen and husband, Mike, Broken Arrow, Okla.; and brother: Johnny Fortenberry and wife, Jean, Silo, Okla. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws: Johnnie Miller and wife, Clara; brother-in-law: Jerry Johnson, Nephew: Steven Johnson; uncle: Jimmy Cornell; and great nephew: Aaron Vick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church of the Nazarene building fund, 105 E Overton St., Madill, OK 73446 Visitation was Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at the Watts Funeral Home, Kingston, Okla., from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a family hour from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services were Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Watts Funeral Home, Kingston, Okla. Dalan Larason officiated the service. Interment was at the Highland Cemetery in Durant, Okla. Casket bearers were: Kenny Cass, Jeremy Miller, Brian Fortenberry, Jason Fortenberry, Chris Crossland, Chris Johnson, Jimmy Miller, and Wendyl Vick.
