Madill Council Agrees to Hire Municipal Judge

By Molly Raley

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, the Madill City Council agreed to hire Michael Haggerty as the Municipal Judge for one year.

According to City Attorney Dustin Rowe, in the past the Council has approved a contract for a municipal judge for a two-year term. However, according to state statute, the Council can’t allocate funds for more than the fiscal year due to the approved budget. After a brief discussion between Rowe, council members (including Shaunda Kendrix, Travis Williams, and Terry Rushing), and Haggerty, the Council approved to appoint Haggerty as the municipal judge for one year. The motion was made by Williams and seconded by Kendrix. It passed with a 3-0 vote.

The Council also approved to appoint Jenna Newman as the alternate municipal judge.
