Ruby Jewell Boydston

Ruby Jewell Boydston was born in Denison, Texas, on Oct. 3, 1922, and passed away on July 8, 2017, at home in Lindsay, Okla. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at First Baptist Church, Lindsay, Okla. Ruby was buried with her parents and brothers in Madill, Okla. Ruby grew up in Madill, Okla., with three brothers; Robert, Lloyd and Freeman. All have predeceased her. She lived on a farm in Madill where she churned and sold butter during her growing up years. She married W. H. Gary in Madill where her oldest son Bob was born in 1942. She moved to El Reno, Okla., where her son Darell was born in 1948. In 1955 Ruby moved to Anadarko, Okla., where Bob and Darell grew up. Ruby worked in a grocery store, and she became the office manager, keeping all the financial books. Ruby was an active square dancer and enjoyed bowling. In 1976, Ruby married Cecil “Buck” Boydston. In 1978, Ruby retired and she and Buck moved to Lindsay, Okla. They enjoyed Friday night domino and card games with their many friends. Ruby was an active member of the Erin Springs Women’s Club and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She crocheted many gifts for family and friends over the years. Ruby enjoyed being a mom to her stepchildren Butch, Donna, and Bo. As time went on, Ruby relished her role as a grandmother to the Gary grandchildren: Brice, Brandi, DeNeill, and Brett; and the Boydston grandchildren: Larry, Ginger, Jennife,r and Jasai. She also thoroughly loved being a great-grandmother to her 10 great-grandchildren. Ruby lived a rich and full life. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Lindsay, where she and Buck enjoyed Sunday school as well as regular services. She served as the Sunday school secretary for many years. Family was very important to her, and she passed in her home surrounded by people she loved. In addition to her parents (Walter and Millie Adams) and her three brothers; Ruby was preceded in death by her first husband, W. H. Gary in 1991; her husband Buck Boydston in 2012; and her son Darell in 2015. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Legion Post 23 in Lindsay or the American Heart Association.
