Commissioners Approve to Move Gravel Pit on Bridgeman Road, Now Accepting Material Bids

By Molly Raley

John Thompson, of J.R. Thompson, Inc., approached the Marshall County Commissioners, on Monday, June 5, about moving an existing gravel pit on Bridgeman Road in District 1.

According to Thompson, by mining regulations, they are limited on the depth of the pit and how close it is to a county road. He said as of now they are at 70 feet within their standards.

“What we would like to do is to come within 25 feet of the fence line,” Thompson said. “We would still slope the pit. Once we mine, everything has to be reclaimed. The pit would be sloped out to 70 feet.”

According to Thompson, Bridgeman Road is a dead-end road, so heavy traffic wouldn’t be of any concern. “I, personally, don’t have a problem with this. It’s not going to be an issue to me,” District 1 Commissioner Don “Salty” Melton said.
