Perfect week for Redskins, including Madill marathon

Two vital district wins as well as a pair of triumphs over local rivals highlighted a perfect week for the Kingston Redskin baseball team heading down the stretch run of the season.

Coach Daron Henson’s squad swept a pair of outings from Hugo, winning 7-0 and 9-5, before taking a 13-inning marathonoverMarshall CountyadversaryMadillbya 6-4 count. They also downed Plainview, 6-5, to close the week and up their record to 13-9 on the year.

The Redskins are slated to wrap up the District 3A-8 schedulethisweekwithapair of crucial contests against Idabel as well as a twinbill with Atoka.

In the Hugo opener, it was a dominant effort from HaydenSeeneyonthemound as the righthander struck out 10 and walked five in six no-hit innings before nearing the pitch count limit. Lander Burkhalter then finished up with one frame of scoreless, one-hit relief.

Kingston’s offense scored at least one run in all but one inning which it batted with two-run tallies coming in both the second and third stanzas as they made the most of six hits. Two of those camefromBrockRumer,who posted a double and a triple with one RBI and two runs scored. Ewan Weaver and BlaneHenryalsocontributed doubles.

The nightcap saw the Redskins ride a massive seven-run scoring eruption in the fourth inning to the win.

Jaksyn Martin, Rumer and Reid Patterson all had singles in the decisive frame with the biggest blows coming from two-run doubles off the bats of Henry and Brady Greene.

Greene was also the catalyst on the mound, firing a complete game in which he allowed five runs (three earned) while scattering four hits and striking out nine. Martin tallied two hits.

The Redskins played the equivalent of nearly two full games to come to a conclusion against Madill as Kingston came from behind with single runs in the final two frames of regulation before finally prevailing in the sixth extra stanza.

Henry singled and Patterson doubledtoprovidethekey blows in the sixth inning tally while Rhett Coble doubled in Rumer to tie it in the seventh. Rumer silenced the Madill bats in the bottom of the frame as well as the eighth and Burkhalter tallied five scoreless stanzas to finish the contest, scattering four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

It was Rumer that came through with the gamedeciding blow in the 13th inning, doubling with two outs to plate Greene and Seeney, who had each drawn free passes.

Patterson ended with a team-high three hits with Rumer and Coble both adding a pair along with two batted in.

Facing Plainview on Saturday, Kingston utilized some late run production again, scoring once in each of its final three at bats. The first came on a wild pitch, the second on a Coble solo home run and the eventual winning run was scored on a Burkhalter double.

Patterson twirled six and one-third frames on the mound, yielding five runs on eight hits and struck out five for the victory. Greene picked up the final two outs for the save, allowing one hit and fanned one.
