The Southern Oklahoma Animal Resource (S.O.A.R.) is a local non profit in the Marshall County area run with the help of volunteers like Kathy Germany. Like most non profits, the work is never done.
S.O.A.R. has many ongoing fundraisingeventstohelp raise funds that will cover the cost of everything from pet food to vet bill expenses. From selling hotdogs at Atwoods on a Saturday to selling donated pet beds for a discounted price, Germany works to make sure that the fur babies in the community are not forgotten and anyone that needs assistance to help care for their pets has a helping hand.
“Today’s event is hotdog day at Atwood’s,' Germany said. 'We use all the money from all of our events to take care of vet bills for people that can’t or to help keep their animal in their home. We give away dog food and cat food. We give away over 24,000 lbs a month.”
Germany talked about the need for assistance and why she does fundraising events.
“Within the first four months of this year, we have covered vet bills, probably about $12,000 for other people's pets,' she said. 'It’s all volunteers, no one gets paid.”
Another ongoing fundraiser that S.O.A.R. is involved in is selling donated pet beds for a discounted price. She said the beds are extras for another animal rescue in Dallas.
“Those are donated. They come from Amazon, Amazon sends them to a lady in Dallas that is another animal rescue,'Germanysaid.'They can not use them, because they get a lot and they are extra. So she sends them by trailer loads to us and we sell them at a discounted price.”
S.O.A.R. gives pet food awayeveryotherThursdayat CityLakePark.Theschedule for services are listed on the office window of S.O.A.R. located at 1601 North First St. in Madill. Germany said they assist with various needs for pets.
“We do shots, microchip, worming, and we give out chemicals like all kinds laundry soap, soap to clean your house and your body, all that kind of stuff,” Germany said of the types of services available.
